Overview

MakeWords for Google Sheets™ is a Google Sheets™ editor add-on that allows users to play a word-building game directly inside Google Sheets™. This policy explains what data the add-on accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and what choices users have.

Data we access (Google™ user data)

When you use the add-on in Google Sheets™, the add-on may access the following data only within the spreadsheet where you run the add-on:

A) Google Sheets™ content in the active spreadsheet

  • Cell values entered by users (example: the root word and submitted words)

  • Sheet names and sheet structure (example: creating or resetting game sheets)

  • Formatting information (example: strikethroughs used to indicate invalid entries)

  • Cell edit events needed to validate gameplay input

B) Add-on UI within Google Sheets™

  • The add-on displays a sidebar used for scoring, feedback, timers, and game controls

  • All UI runs only inside Google Sheets™

Important clarification

  • The add-on does not access Gmail™, Google Drive™, Google Contacts™, Google Calendar™, or Google™ user profile information

  • The add-on does not browse or list files in Google Drive™

  • The add-on does not store spreadsheet data outside Google Sheets™

  • The add-on may copy pre-built game sheets from a developer-owned template spreadsheet into your current Google Sheets™ spreadsheet. This template source is owned and managed by the developer and is not part of your Google Drive™.

How we use the data

We use accessed data only to provide the add-on’s gameplay features, including:

  • Reading submitted words to validate them against the root word

  • Checking words against an internal dictionary sheet included in the spreadsheet

  • Calculating scores based on word length

  • Displaying feedback, scores, and timing information in the sidebar

  • Resetting or starting a new game upon user request

Data storage

  • All game data (words, scores, timing state) is stored only in the Google Sheets™ file where you use the add-on

  • The add-on does not store spreadsheet content on external servers

  • The add-on does not maintain a separate user database

Data sharing and transfers

  • We do not sell, rent, or share personal data

  • We do not transfer Google™ user data to third-party services

  • No spreadsheet content is sent outside Google™ infrastructure

Data retention and deletion

  • Because all data is stored in your Google Sheets™ spreadsheet, you control retention

  • You may delete words, scores, or sheets at any time

  • You may stop using or uninstall the add-on at any time

  • The add-on does not retain copies of your spreadsheet content

Security

  • The add-on uses Google™ authentication and authorization mechanisms

  • All access is governed by Google™ OAuth permissions

  • No OAuth tokens or spreadsheet data are stored on external servers

Permissions and scopes

The add-on requests only the permissions required to operate inside Google Sheets™:

  • Google Sheets™ access: to read and edit the spreadsheet where the game is played

  • Container UI: to display the sidebar and menus inside Google Sheets™

Compliance with Google API Services User Data Policy

Our use of information received from Google™ APIs complies with the Google™ API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google™ user data is used solely to provide the add-on’s user-facing functionality and is not used for advertising, profiling, or resale.

Children’s privacy

MakeWords for Google Sheets™ is intended for educational and general use. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Any content entered into a Google Sheets™ spreadsheet is provided by the user or their organization and remains within the spreadsheet they control.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page and the “Last updated” date will be revised accordingly.

Agreement to these Terms

By installing or using MakeWords for Google Sheets™, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the add-on.

The Service

MakeWords for Google Sheets™ is a Google Sheets™ editor add-on that allows users to play a word-building game inside Google Sheets™, including scoring, validation, and optional time-based gameplay.

User responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Your use of the add-on and any content you enter into the Google Sheets™ spreadsheet

  • Ensuring you have permission to use and share any words or content you place into the spreadsheet

  • Reviewing game results before sharing or using them in an educational context

Permissions

The add-on requires access to the active Google Sheets™ spreadsheet in which it is used in order to read and write game data, apply formatting, and provide gameplay feedback. The add-on does not access your Google Drive™ file list and does not store spreadsheet content outside your Google Sheets™ spreadsheet.

Intellectual property

The add-on, associated code, branding, and template materials are owned by the developer. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the add-on for its intended purpose.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to reverse engineer or abuse the add-on in ways that interfere with normal operation

  • Use the add-on in violation of applicable law

  • Distribute the add-on as your own product or remove attribution where it is legally required

Availability and changes

We may update, modify, or discontinue features at any time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the add-on.

Disclaimer

The add-on is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. You use it at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or business arising from your use of the add-on.

Termination

You may stop using the add-on at any time and may uninstall it. These Terms remain effective to the extent necessary to cover ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability.
